«Let’s see which are the general conditions for a photo shoot, a series of photographs, or a single photo to be considered for publication.
- Journalistic interest. The story or photograph must always contain news for the reader, news that is actually journalistically useful. Long experience is required to assess this point correctly.
- Timeliness. This point is especially true for current events or news related to facts and stories that burn out as the hours pass.
- Quality. Beautiful photography is certainly more welcome than mediocre photography. It should be added, however, that it is very difficult that a photograph is published because of its beauty (if anything, because it is singular or curious) and this is basically fair because a news media is not an almanac of beautiful photographs.
- Pertinence. It is important to target the right audience. Each media has its own line and is unlikely to deviate from a pre-established track that is supposed to reflect the interests of the audience to which it is directed.
- Clarity and simplicity. The topic should be simple, clear, obvious, and, correspondingly, clear and obvious the images that compose the story. In this way, the idea will be perceived with immediacy and will be judged consequently.
Of course, photographs will be accompanied by informed and accurate captions and possibly a short text describing the fact to which the photographs refer».
