«The photojournalist who returns from a trip, having embraced family and friends, developed and printed, is about to learn the economic significance of his journey… The photographer-traveler (unless he wants to take on the appearance of the hitchhiker with a camera) must have capital to invest… Or he can make camp-base in Italy and there produce for newspapers. At this point, however, interest in the profession of photojournalism (chosen largely for the opportunities it gives to know the world and to range) intisicates on both a strictly professional and economic level. Done in this way, the profession becomes a making do at the least worst».
